Great Big Green Week

Great Big Green Week (running between 8 and 16 June) is the UK's biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.

First launched in 2021, the Great Big Green Week is a national festival that sees events organised all over the UK by communities and organisations. In 2023 more than 250,000 took part, with national organisations, institutions, businesses and media outlets joined in, ultimately putting pressure on the government to up its game on climate change.

This year the theme for the week is all about celebrating swaps.

There are so many swaps you can get involved with to take part:

  • clothes swaps;
  • book swaps;
  • skills swaps - from helping out in allotments or green spaces, to upcycling workshops;
  • knowledge swaps - share what you know on discussion panels or in the community.

Whatever you choose to swap, the Great Big Green Week are keen for everyone to get involved and share their swaps to help promote a safer greener future.

If you care about climate change, this is a fantastic initiative to get behind. You can get your organisation involved, your local community group/school, or engage at an individual level.

The events website has some great ideas on how to get involved and take action, including:
