The Government are warning that air pollution in England will peak this Friday (10 April 2015) as a result of warm weather. They are advising physical activity should be reduced, particularly by those with health problems.
The official UK Air site has said that levels of air pollution are forecast to become high across central, eastern and northern England, with locally very high pollution levels for a time in the far southeast of England, due to a flow from the south. Across the rest of the UK, mainly moderate air pollution levels are forecast.
The warning for very high pollution levels is for adults and children with lung problems, adults with heart problems, and older people, to avoid strenuous physical activity. People with asthma may find they need to use their reliever inhaler more often.
It is thought that the high pollution can be blamed on several factors including a combination of dirty air from the continent, the fine weather conditions and Saharan dust, which contributed to several days of serious pollution one year ago.
In some areas of the country temperatures are expected to reach as high as 22 degrees.
It is thought that pollution will begin to be blown away by Saturday, and a Met Office spokeswoman said: "We do have a weak front crossing the UK late on Friday which is bringing some cooler, fresher air behind it. Until then we have these fairly calm, settled conditions which means any pollution build-up doesn't move, it's trapped there."
