Crane collapses in London

A 20m crane being used to develop a block of flats in London has collapsed, falling on top of the development itself and two adjacent houses.

The collapse sadly resulted in one fatality and four injuries.

At the moment, it is unclear as to how or why the crane collapsed. Swan Housing Association and NU living, who were using the crane, have issued a statement to say they were "deeply saddened by an incident that occurred at our Watts Grove development site this afternoon". Following the collapse of the crane, Swan Housing Association and NU living launched a full incident response and ensured staff were on site to support emergency services.

Meanwhile, Jerry Swain, national officer for Unite, called for an "urgent, full and complete investigation into the circumstances that led to this accident".

It is important that the investigation is thorough and that the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are established.
