The Rules establish requirements for life-saving appliances and arrangements on ships, including the requirements for life boats, rescue boats and life jackets.

They contain specific provisions in relation to:

• the evaluation, testing and approval of life-saving appliances and arrangements;
• passenger ships and cargo ships;
• additional requirements for passenger ships;
• additional requirements for cargo ships; and
• requirements for life-saving appliances and arrangements.
