European Communities Act 1972
This Act was signed into law on 6 December 1972 and applies to Ireland only.
It makes provision with respect to membership of the State of the:
- European Economic Community;
- European Coal and Steel Community; and
- European Atomic Energy Community.
This Act provides for the implementation and application of EU legislation into Republic of Ireland legislation, and is featured in many pieces of Irish legislation where EU Treaties, Regulations and Directives are implemented and applied.
Definitions
In the context of this Act:
"Treaties governing the European Communities" means those treaties listed in the Full Text to this Act.
