Introduction
The Water Services Regulation Authority, Ofwat, is the economic regulator of the water and sewerage industry in England and Wales.
Ofwat was established in 1989 when the water and sewerage industry in England and Wales was privatised. As a non-ministerial government department, Ofwat is not subject to direction from Ministers in its day-to-day work, however it is directly accountable to Parliament and the Welsh Assembly Government.
