This Act came into force on 4 November 1965 and applies to Northern Ireland only.

Most of the provisions have been repealed by various pieces of legislation including the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations (Northern Ireland) SR 1993/37, however there are still some provisions in force on medical examinations,
